Host Sherrilynne Starkie welcomes author Rona Maynard to episode 27 of the 50 Women Over 50 podcast.
Rona’s successful career in publishing culminated as the editor of Chatelaine, Canada’s most popular women’s magazine. Soon after she had retired, Rona’s husband talked her into rescuing a little dog. Casey proved to be Rona’s muse and she’s recently published her third book, a memoir entitled Starter Dog: My Path to Joy, Belonging and Loving this World.
In this interview Rona discusses how letting Casey into her life gave her a new way of seeing the world as she explores her neighbourhood on their daily walks, making new friends and discovering hidden beauty spots.
She shares how she felt about leaving the world of work. “At first, I did not know who I was anymore,” she explains. “Then you realise it’s up to you alone to make your day meaningful. It is an opportunity to ask yourself, not how am I doing, but how am I interesting? What did I love about this day?”
