The folks at the National Arts Centre Orchestra recently invited me to a sneak preview of Casual Fridays. I just popped down the road from my office to the NAC LeCafe right from work, and it turned out to be a really fun time with some cool people, great music and fantastic food.
Casual Friday’s start with the Culinary Overture — variety of delectable small plates. At the sneak preview we enjoyed a range of international foods and wine. Here’s the menu:
- Caramelized cauliflower and cashew soup cocktail (This was the absolute star of the show!)
- Black and white barley cakes
- Butter chicken and paneer
- Tempura prawn po’ boy
- Confit pork shoulder tacos
- BBQ duck lettuce wraps (Couldn’t get enough of this one!)
- Lump crab cake
- Grilled cheese “lambwich”
Then the concert starts at 7 p.m. It’s an ninety-minute performance with no intermission, so at 8.30 sharp there’s a post show reception where music lovers can mingle over coffee and tea or they can enjoy the cash bar.
This is a fun night out and with the Culinary Overture priced at just $20/person, it’s affordable too.
