Top Five: LinkedIn keeps getting better and better
Facebook Messenger, Google Snippets, Instagram Highlights, Linkedin Skills Notifications and Website Demographics all make this week's top five must-knows of social media.
Kids are getting messenger
Facebook users in the USA are getting a preview of Messenger Kids, a standalone app that lives on kids’ tablets or smartphones and is controlled by the parent’s Facebook account. Now kids can video call, send and receive photos, videos and text messages from parent approved contacts. There’s also a library of kid-appropriate GIFs, frames, stickers, masks and drawing tools.
Instagram makes ephemeral content less…ephemeral
Now Instagram users can highlight their favourite Stories from the past year. Stories Highlights appear on the user’s profile and they don’t disappear in a day...they stay until the user removes them. Highlights go hand in hand with new Stories Archive where stories will automatically save once expired.
Google aids discovery with more visuals
Google’s Featured Snippets not only help the algorithm to understand better web content, they now highlight related content, and this week the search engine also added more images. Knowledge panels, the box that appears to the right of search results, have also been updated to show related content. The idea is help the searcher discover more.
Use LinkedIn to stay at the top of your game
LinkedIn users will start noticing a monthly notification that suggests relevant trending skills among people with the same job title. Adding new skills to a profile makes it more findable in searches. The business social network will also recommend LinkedIn Learning courses when relevant too.
Did you know that LinkedIn has its own ‘pixel’?
LinkedIn’s Website Demographics is a free tool that allows website owners to monitor which LinkedIn users are visiting. It provides fantastic insight to guide content and advertising campaigns. Hubspot has published this great tutorial on how to implement this new analytics tool.
