More than a thousand marketers turned up at Montreal’s Palais de Congres last week to learn the latest thinking from a slate of all-stars and I was lucky enough to be among them. The line up included:
Mitch Joel
Seth Godin
Avinash Kaushik
Max Lenderman
Andy Nulman
Jeffrey Gitomer
Mitch Joel, known as one of North America’s leading digital visionaries kicked off the event with an insightful one-hour talk on how the Internet is changing the way the consumers behave. While he didn’t say anything incredibly groundbreaking, his talk set the scene for the day’s discussion. His …

I’m heading to Montreal for the Art of Marketing on 30 Sept and am really excited about hearing marketing and branding authors Seth Godin, Mitch Joel, Andy Nulman, Max Lenderman, Avinash Kaushik and Jeffrey Gitomer. It’s a one-day conference and the lineup of speakers is incredible. It’s hosted by Ron Tite, an expert in comedy and creative thinking.
The bumph says that delegates will gain a clearer understanding of how marketing has changed, what role it now plays in the buying decision, its impact on your business and ultimately …

Here’s what I’ve been reading this past week:
1. In Why PR is the prescription in BusinessWeek, ad man Steve McKee explains how a PR pro can give you a needed dose of reality.
2. Clay Shirky’s post on the failure of #amazonfail explains why, even when so many people got it wrong in acusing Amazon of discriminating against gay and lesbian literature, the mud will stick for the online bookseller. (Thanks to @jangles for pointing this one out.)
3. Nick Burcher explains how Britian’s Got Talent’s Susan Boyle has become …

2. More good advice. How to write headlines that pop, from Flack’s Revenge.
3. Leo explains to company directors what social media can do for them.
4. Todd Defren explains why sacking the PR agency to save money during tough times is such a bad idea.
5. Seth Godin explains …

1. Rohit has a right good rant about Kellogg’s Lego Fun Snacks. Why do people hate marketers?
2. Jeremiah gives a interesting explanation of how VCs and tech analysts are similar yet different in their perspectives when engaging with entrepreneurs.
3. Chris Brogan has an excellent discussion going about defining web authority. There’s a lot of comments but it’s well worth investing the time to read it.
4. Seth Godin explains why some companies resort to advertising. Erm… well specifically he’s talking about Microsoft.
5. Friends v Fans. Susan Getgood gives her views on …

There is so much incredibly good content in the PR blogosphere. And, the pool keeps expanding with more people getting into it. Picking just five to highlight here is getting increasingly difficult. But here goes:
1. Chris Brogan has some excellent tips on technologies and tools that will help us all save time.
2. Here is something you don’t see every day. This journalist is almost begging for PR pitches.
3. Bashing the PR profession seems to be the latest trend in linkbait. Guy Kingston is jumping on the bandwagon …

One of the best things about Sundays is that I have the time to sit back with a coffee and actually read people’s blogs. Not just scan the headlines. Not just skim the narrative. But actually read, comment and bookmark. This is part of what makes a Sunday special. My coffee is now finished and real life beckons. But before I log off to get on with the chores here’s my top 5 post from the blogosphere this week (in no particular …

Jo is off until next week. Until then you’re stuck with my PR top 5. Enjoy!
1. Leo suggests that you shouldn’t take notes during a meeting so that you free your mind to truly listen to the discussion. I’m not so sure. I can’t remember a single thing after five minutes if I don’t write it down. Maybe the solution is to bring someone to take notes, or tape the conversation.
2. Both Sally and Heather got personal on their blogs this week. It’s posts like these that …
