This is a handy infographic that compares advertising, PR and marketing people against ‘normal’ people. It looks at how we use social media mostly, but also at how we behave at office parties. Are you normal?

There’s been a lot of discussion about Klout and its new algorythm lately. People were unsurprisingly a little miffed to wake up one morning to find their Klout score had dropped 20 points overnight. I was a little upset about it myself, I have to admit. Here’s a selection of views from around the blogoshere which illustrates a range of views:
In a guest post on Neville Hobson’s blog, Tammy Kahn Fennel of MarketMeSuite says that Klout is getting a bum rap and is spitefully …

I don’t usually flack client work on this blog, but this week our team at Thornley Fallis created such a fantastic event and media opportunity I just have to brag (just a little).
The team was challenged to tell a complicated story made up of disparate elements: environment, food, manufacturing, ecology, transportation, technology and fun. We created a unique experience that pulled everthing together into solid story that proved to be compelling to journalists, bloggers, influencers and people every where.
There’s no need for me to retell the story here, when Citizen …

The primary goal for businesses and brands using social media is to raise awareness and generate exposure, according to this week’s survey of fans of the Sherrilynne’s PR & Social Media Training & Consulting Facebook page. It’s a fact backed up in the Social Media Marketing Report 2011 published last week by the Social Media Examiner.
Fewer than half of businesses using social media see it as a means to generate sales leads, a finding consistent in both surveys. This means that social media is seen as important for public relations, …

Oh no! Our friends at PR Moment have put together a jargon buster that includes the 12 most-hated phrases used in the public relations profession. I’m embarrassed to admit to using 11 of the 12. A prize goes out to the first one who can name the only term from the list I’ve never been guilty of using (leave your guess in the comments).

Digital native/immigrant

In watching last week’s BBC documentary on social class the irony of seeing the head of a top British public relations agency Modus Publicity get raked over the coals by reporter Richard Bilton did not escape those of us in the business.
According to PR Week, Julian Vogel, Modus’ director ‘inadvertently played a starring role’ in the documentary. In it, the PR pro was forced to admit that his firm employed up to 20 staff working as unpaid interns at any one time.
You’d think the head of a top PR agency …
