More than 70 members and friends of the Isle of Man Junior Chamber of Commerce attended a special eGaming meeting last night.  Speaker Warwick Bartlett told the group: “I think the single biggest issue facing the eGaming sector for the next five to six years is going to be changes to law. That’s whether the United States market will open up and whether the free market will win out in Europe.”

Warwick has more than 40 years’ continuous experience in the betting and gambling industry.  He is currently chairman of the …

Last week I attended the International Gaming Exhibition and spent some time supporting the Isle of Man effort on the DTI’s fabulous stand.
I’ve been to a few of these events now and I came away from this one thinking it was the best ever.
I took some time to have a look around the trade show floor to see if I could find ‘the next big thing‘ in egaming.

Next week, January 27 to 29, like many people from the Isle of Man, I’ll be heading to London to attend the ICEi, part of the International Gaming Exhibition which is the UK’s biggest trade show for people involved in egaming.
More than 2,500 people will flock to Earls Court to see more than 250 companies taking part at the show; it really is a who’s who of online gambling and gaming.
The Isle of Man Government has taken part the last couple of years by having an exhibition stand …

The British Computer Society Isle of Man (BCS) held an event this month to look into the future of egaming in the Island.
It took the form of a panel discussion with four industry experts fielding questions from an audience of around 40 BCS members and other interested people.
The panel included John Spellman, CEO of the Manx eGaming Association (MeGA); Rick Liotta, financial consultant to Poker Stars; Miles Benham, a solicitor who specialises in the online gambling industry; and Chris Gledhill, managing director of PDMS, a software development company with a …

The British Computer Society (Isle of Man) are pleased to announce the second event in their 2007 annual programme, on Wednesday 17th October, Douglas Hilton, 18.00.
This event is intended to be a discussion forum where members can bring up issues, concerns and views about eGaming with respect to both the global aspect and a Manx perspective. The eGaming industry is multifaceted; there are legislative, business and technical aspects to consider and we have brought together a varied panel of experts with a wide variety of experiences in the field of …

Here’s another look at last months most popular Strive Notes:
5. In a weird co-incidence, it seems that January’s Top 5 made February’s Top 5.
4. PR: the lying profession? incited a lot of interest.  Many comments too.
3. Influencing the blogosphere, my post about the Guardian’s story on Sway got tipped on a few blogs making it the 3rd most popular of the month.
2. What means never having to say you’re sorry was my diatribe about the crap service I was getting from my web hosting company.   People love a good …

Mark Twain once claimed that reports of his death had been exaggerated. That quote came to mind as I wandered around the trade show at ICEi, the egaming component of the International Casino Exhibition that took place in London.  Gambling and eGaming companies from all around the world were gathered in Earls Court 1 & 2 for three days.  Click here to read my report on the show, orginally published in The Isle of Man Examiner’s Tech Talk.

Time for another look at last month’s most popular Strive Notes:
5.  Online gambling on ICEi summed up my experience at the huge trade show that took place earlier this month at Earls Court. eGaming is a topical subject given the legislative climate in the US…lots of eyeballs on this post.
4.  Top 5s are always popular and the 12 Jan edition was no exception.  Here we looked at  the importance of volume in PR, new media technology, the role of PR in marketing, trade shows and second life.
3.  Communicating the …

I don’t think so. Well, you wouldn’t suspect as much anyway from the huge success of the ICEi show at Earl’s Court that is finishing up today. The International Casino Exhibition’s egaming section was a hive of activity with hundreds of companies from around the world taking part. I was there for a day earlier this week with Netcetera, the web hosting company. We spent a full day briefing various reporters and industry analysts about the new £10m datacentre in the Isle of Man, probably the biggest facility …
