Lyara, thanks for taking the time to read my blog, I really do appreciate it. Thanks also for leaving such a thoughtful comment. You are exactly right about volunteering. It should start while you are still in education to make sure you are in the best position for jobsearch after graduation.

Great post sherrilynne!
One thing I cannot stress enough to recent grads that are searching for a job is don’t give up! Job searching can literally feel like a full-time job and can be discouraging after a couple of months. One thing many recent grads forget is volunteer experience on a resume is just as credible as a paid job. A volunteer position that directly relates to your profession can help you stand out from the competition and build up your expertise in a field you want to grow in. You may be short on years of experience when it comes to job descriptions, but volunteering can help you increase this. As a recent PR grad, most of us are thinking short-term of just getting a job as soon as possible and paying off some school debt, rather than long-term. I think what most recent grads should do is create a timeline of where you see yourself in five years. Ask yourself these questions: What do you want to do? Why do you want this? How will you get there? These are questions a lot of recent grads can’t answer immediately but with some volunteering, networking, and planning you can stay on top of the job search and build a solid reputation for your work ethic rather than just giving up and doing a job you don’t love.
