The primary goal for businesses and brands using social media is to raise awareness and generate exposure, according to this week’s survey of fans of the Sherrilynne’s PR & Social Media Training & Consulting Facebook page. It’s a fact backed up in the Social Media Marketing Report 2011 published last week by the Social Media Examiner.
Fewer than half of businesses using social media see it as a means to generate sales leads, a finding consistent in both surveys. This means that social media is seen as important for public relations, …

Do you find value in Facebook’s new ‘questions’s function? This is the question I posed my Facebook friend this week as I tried out the new feature for the first time. The whole object of the exercise was to help me determine my own answer to the question, and I can now say that yes, I definitely find value in this new feature.
I started by posing the question on my personal Facebook profile and just left it alone to see what happened. I got three quick replies and then nothing …

According to Facebook’s ‘Facebook Pages’, the new features are designed to help manage communication and increase engagement.
Unlike the Facebook user profile, a page is not for the average ‘man on the street’. Instead it’s a platform for organisations, public figures, businesses and brands. However the revamped pages will have a lot of the same features that are included in the redesigned profiles that launched early …

Facebook users who use Places to check into a store or “like” a fan page will be soon finding it posted to their friends’ Facebooks, and so far, there are no plans to allow people to ‘opt out’.
The idea is to give advertisers greater word-of-mouth opportunties to see. The new, promoted posts would keep the same privacy setting that the original posting had. So if you limit your check-ins to a specific group of friends, only these same friends would see the sponsored story version later.
The promoted content will appear …

It’s been almost two years since Facebook introduced private family groups, and then last October the concept was extended with the introduction of ‘secret’ groups. But many people are unaware of this function or don’t understand how to use it.
The original idea behind them was to let family or other intimate groups of individuals share very private content without exposing it to their larger Facebook friend communities. The launch last autumn extended the concept for use among other small groups, for example sports teams or book clubs.
The function is easy …

While tags are an essential tool for sharing important moments, people sometimes find tagging photos to be a chore, especially when there are hundreds of shots loaded at once into an album.
To make things easier, Facebook recently added group tagging, so people can type one …

Facebook has made some improvements to its personal profiles to make it easier to use. Everyone’s profile now begins with a quick overview of basic information such as where the user from, where he went to school, and where he works—all good conversation starters. And the new profile includes a row of recently tagged photos of the user.
The new profile allows people to highlight some friends such as family, best friends or colleagues. Users can create new groups of friends or feature existing friends lists. It also gives people …
