Technorati is reporting on a recent survey by MustHaveMenus, a provider of restaurant menu templates. It revealed that nearly half of the 1,300 restaurant owners, managers and caterers that were polled, do not use social media to attract customers to their eateries. While social media usage among restaurateurs is growing, a large percentage of eating establishments are social media holdouts.
Here are some of the key findings from the study:
• 42% of restaurant owners and managers invest in social media efforts (including blog participation, and managing their Twitter and …

As I’d indicated last month, I’ve broadened the Twitter’s Top list to 20 this month. That’s because things are getting crowded at the top of the Grader (popularity) list and because there are lot more people in the Isle of Man now on Twitter. So there are a lot of new names on the lists. Interestingly, @jamesqtt enters the Grader list at number six. And, we have two new entries in the top ten on the TweetLevel (influence) list: @listen_to_dom makes an appearance at number four and @anaminela squeaks in …

No new names on the Isle of Man Twitter top ten this month, and that’s a shame because there are lots of people tweeting these days. Have you listed yourself on Twitter Grader? That’s how to ensure you get considered for the rankings.
Our friend @moogc, sadly, has dropped out of the influence table, but the silver lining is that @amadeus_iom makes his return.
The top four names at the top of popularity list are all tied at 100%, which leave little room to maneuver. Perhaps we should extend the list to …

It’s that time again… announcing this month’s Isle of Man Twitter top ten! And there’s a big upset on the ‘Influence’ listing with @harbourcreek joining the ranks right at number one! This is the profile of Paul Inglis who’s profile describes him as a “visual artist, writer, techno geek & gamer – social media addict, bibliophile, gadget nerd, open source advocate, web & graphic design, filmmaking & photography. Sound like my kind of geek!
Owen’s @mbageekdotcom profile has soared to the top of the popularity rankings and has made gains with …

For the past few weeks I’ve been publishing three daily Twitter ‘newspapers’ with the paper.li platform and with the exception of a little pushback about autotweets getting a bit spammy, for the most part it’s been a positive and useful experience.
paper.li is an easy to use platform that organises links shared on Twitter into an easy-to-read newspaper-style format. Newspapers can be created for any Twitter user, list or #tag and I publish one which represents my whole Twitter community, another for the Isle of Man Twitter community and a …

This month’s Isle of Man Twitter top 10 holds a few surprises. The popularity ranking hasn’t changed a bit since last month, but the influence side of things has mixed things up. One man gets two listings on TweetLevel with two profiles: both @OwenC and @mbageekdotcom are from the same blogger, a person of much influence online. Everyone’s favourite photoblogger @amadeus_iom has joined the influence ranks for the first time. @anglawrence and @manxiefi are both dropped from the influence side this month. And @lalalambert has been pushed down to No. …

We missed June’s league table but here’s a quick snapshot of the Isle of Man Twittersphere for July. We’ve had a few changes since May, notably, I’ve been kicked off the top of the influence table by Adam Lambert fan Carla Quick, Derek Richardson has joined in the fun and ranks high on both tables and Beckii Cruel continues her steady march towards the top.
To be in with a chance of being included in next month’s tables, make sure you get listed on Twitter Grader’s Isle of Man Elite …

The idea of having a social media club sprang up in 2006 in Silicon Valley and the concept spread quickly all around the world with groups of folks interested in the social internet getting together to share knowledge, experience and best practice under the motto: “if you get it, share it”.
We formed the Isle of Man Social Media Club (SMC) in early 2008 and have met on the Third Thursday of each month ever since (with one exception: the week that OwenC and I were both tied up with family …
