Picking up an IABC Canada Silver Leaf Award

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) recently presented its Silver Leaf Awards for 2012, and Thornley Fallis and our client Allstate Canada were recognized with two Awards of Merit.
We  won the awards for our work on the AllState Canada 2011 Media Relations Program and the Taking Action Against Distracted Driving campaign.
IABC recognizes excellence in organizational communications at the international, national and chapter levels. The Silver Leaf Awards are Canada’s national recognition program.

Digital grassroots: the Internet fights back

Yesterday, Michael Geist presented a keynote address to the IABC 2012 Canada Business Communicators’ Summit which was held in Ottawa.  His topic, the year the Internet fought back, focused on how a genuine grassroots movement, fuelled by social media, impacted the Canadian Federal government’s digital copyright law.
Mr. Geist, the Canada research chair of Internet and e-commerce law at the University of Ottawa is widely known as a newspaper columnist for the Ottawa Citizen and the Toronto Star. He’s recognized as one the world’s most influential people on the subject.  He …

Twitter’s Biz Stone speaks at CIRA’s AGM

This week CIRA*, the organization behind the .ca domain, held its annual general meeting and symposium in Ottawa, and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone was the closing keynote speaker.
He told the crowd made up of Internet geeks, social media enthusiasts and business professionals about how Twitter was born in 2006.  At the time his business associates weren’t convinced of the usefulness of a tool that would let friends communicate through only short text messages. Using social media for research: Social Capital 2012

ICANN 45 gets cool Toronto look and feel

ICANN 45 takes place in Toronto,  Canada October 14-19, 2012!  It’s a large international conference that will attract thousands of Internet policy and industry professional from all over the world and CIRA ( the Canadian Internet Registration Authority and a Thornley Fallis Communications client) is hosting.
