Social Capital Ottawa

3 July 2012 6 Comments

Canada’s national capital is Ottawa and one of the city’s many strengths is the active and passionate social media community that thrives here.  It’s a community that continues to grow and learn that’s why it supports the 2nd annual Social  Capital conference taking place later this month.  This one-day conference is “must attend” for social media enthusiasts and newbies alike.

If last year’s effort is any indication, the 2012 conference is sure to a highlight of the social media and marketing calendar.  The day is a blend of formal presentations with community/un-conference style sessions on topics ranging from Twitter to LinkedIn, the technical details of self-hosting a blog to the how-tos of personal branding, and online community building to social media in the workplace.

Organizers have asked me to moderate a couple of roundtable sessions, and I’m delighted.  With ‘Are you social?’ I’ll facilitate a discussion of current social media trends for businesses and organizations.  The idea is to get participants to share what they are doing with social  in their workplaces, lessons learned and problems or challenges they are facing.

All participants will come away have learned about strategies and tactics that have been employed by real world businesses in Ottawa.  It should be a fun session and I hope to see everyone there on July 21st.
