We’ve got a lot of new entries on the popularity ranking (Grader) this month. Welcome to @phdinparenting who enters at No. 1. Also @zaki_usman and @seanpower. Good-bye @suzemuse, @plevy and @jason_otoole. And, there’s been some changes to the influence (TweetLevel) charts too. Good-bye to @bambiblue, @pmharper, @michelfortin and @brianhurley. Welcome to @phdinparenting, @snookca and me (@sherrilynne).
These lists are just as a bit of fun, but they do prove an important point: just because you are popular on Twitter (Grader) doesn’t mean you have influence (TweetLevel). And you don’t have to have thousands of followers to be influential.
Interestingly, every single person on the Grader Top 50 for Ottawa (used as the basis for my lists) scores a perfect 100. So while it was easy enough to come up with the popularity list; ranking the top influencers has proven to be more difficult. It would be folly to assume that only tweeps from from the top of the Grader list would make up the cream of the TweetLevel list; there could be hundreds of people on Twitter that rank higher in influence than those shown on my list.
I’ve gone ahead and used Grader as the basis of my lists for now, but I ask you, dear Ottawa readers, to please help me get it right. Is your TweetLevel score above 57? Then please get yourself listed on Grader and let me know your TweetLevel score by leaving a comment below. And, in a couple of weeks, I’ll revise the list.
Have you got Klout?
Since last month, I’ve had a lot of people suggest I use Klout as the basis for influence measurement. I looked into it and have decided to stick with TweetLevel because it’s focused just on Twitter. Klout pulls in data from Facebook, LinkedIn and will soon be also using blogs. I want to keep these rankings purely about Twitter.
To ensure you’re in with a chance of being included in next month’s table, make sure you list your Twitter profile on Twitter Grader. I use this as the basis for both lists. Remember, only profiles associated with a human name are included. That way regular folks are not competing with big brands and news services for visability.
If I’ve made any mistakes or omissions I do apologize. Please let me know about them and I’ll endeavour to fix it next month.
