This is the second such list I’ve compiled for Ottawa’s Twitter community. The idea is to create a bit of competitive fun, but more importantly it’s to demonstrate that, just because someone is popular on Twitter doesn’t necessarily mean they are influential. I use two tools to come up with my lists. Twitter Grader looks at popularity; TweetLevel looks at influence.
But, the exercise is not as straightforward as it seems. The big issue is that every single person on the Grader Top 50 for Ottawa (used as the basis for my lists) scores a perfect 100 (although are some new entrants since last month). So while it was easy enough to come up with the popularity list; ranking the top influencers continues to prove to be more difficult. It would be folly to assume that only tweeps from from the top of the Grader list would make up the cream of the TweetLevel list; there are probably hundreds of people on Twitter that rank higher in influence than those shown on my list.
I’ve gone ahead and used Grader as the basis of my lists for now, but I ask you, dear Ottawa readers, to please help me get it right. Is your TweetLevel score above 55? Then please get yourself listed on Grader and let me know your TweetLevel score by leaving a comment below (last month, five people did so). And, next month I’ll consider these comments in revising the list. I hope that, with the wisdom of the crowd, it won’t take long to get a more accurate TweetLevel list. Remember, I only reference profiles that are attached to a human’s name. No brands, corporate nor company names are included. This levels the playing field somewhat.
If I’ve made any errors or ommissions please forgive me and leave me a comment with the correction. I’ll be sure to fix it next month. In case you are wondering about my own personal scores I’m a 100 on Grader and 61 on TweetLevel. I don’t include myself in the rankings though, because I live across the ocean from my hometown Ottawa.
