I’ve noticed of late that my Facebook is getting weird. I don’t mean just the new layout. It’s the activity I’m seeing and my community as a whole, that are getting a bit strange. Seeing friends from high school, college, different places I’ve worked over the years alongside my kids, cousins and drinking buddies tells a confused story. Add to that professional acquaintances, employees and ‘online friends’ and the mix is a very strange brew.
It’s confusing. It’s diluted. It just doesn’t make much sense. And the repetition between my newsfeed and my Twitterfeed, means Facebook is getting kind of boring and a bit of chore.
So, for the very first time I’ve done a Facebook cull. But a gentle one. I’ve moved any Facebook friends whom I haven’t actually met in person to LinkedIn. I’m hoping that adding some compartmentalisation to my various lives will help me better absorb information, save time and perhaps most importantly, relate better.
If you noticed I’ve ‘defriended’ you in Facebook, please don’t take it persoanally. It means I’m following you on Twitter or Linked In so we can still connect and share.

A good excuse to move on and clear out the hangers on! lol. Hopefully I have survived the cull!

I did something similar a few months ago. I think it really is using each network to its best purpose. I think that also creates more respect and value in the relationships.

Twitter is the newest craze today. i tweet at least 5 times a day on my friends just to keep them informed about my whereabouts. I still keep my personal blog though. ..
